Tanya Baskin
My name is Tanya Baskin and I am a creative strategist and an accomplished marketing and brand building
professional. I develop and implement strategically innovative solutions that help organizations and companies elevate their agendas and achieve their promise. Providing the message strategy, tactical guidance and structure organizations and companies need to reach their highest potential, I am highly proficient at converting big ideas into strategic plans and solutions. Whether it’s through the development of an incisive marketing and communications approach to build their brand, or the execution of a new business strategy to increase revenue, penetrate markets or develop strategic key partnerships, I work closely with each client to develop effective tailored solutions to improve their brand narratives and meet their business objectives.
Currently, I specialize in robust and challenging projects that allow me to use my talents to transform the brand, systems or culture of an organization from the ground up. Serving as a marketing and communications strategist for institutions looking to transform their current brand perception and expand their impact, I spearhead campaigns and initiatives that bring this to fruition. Through improved storytelling, messaging and content development I worked collaboratively to lead the University of the District of Columbia to secure an increase of 9.5% in funding to their base operating budget and an additional $70M in capital funding from the District of Columbia and subsequently improve the brand of the University.
Prior to consulting, I worked with major brands to create marketing campaigns that transformed movements globally. Joining forces with Procter and Gamble, I expanded the company’s relationship with Special Olympics from a U.S. focused platform to include Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, expanding the partnership from $2M domestic to $8M globally.
Working with Coca-Cola, I leveraged relationships to develop a strategic partnership between Special Olympics, FIFA and the Government of South Africa to establish the Special Olympics Africa Unity Cup - a unified athlete and celebrity soccer match - during the World Cup festivities. The Special Olympics Africa Unity Cup game has continued since 2010 as a major awareness and fundraising event for Special Olympics Africa.
As the Executive Director of the Voila Foundation for Trilogy International Partners, I successfully launched the first ever mobile money service in Haiti, a predominantly cash economy where most citizens remain unbanked. There, we registered more than 300,000 users with over 3 million financial transactions conducted via mobile phone within the first year. This ground-breaking project which built a network of over 1,000 agents and merchants in more than 30 cities throughout Haiti addressed a lack of formal banking infrastructure in the country and helped spur recovery efforts after the 2010 earthquake. These efforts led to Trilogy’s global recognition as a Corporate Citizen by being invited to become a featured commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative and by receiving the majority share ($889,250) of the first “Scaling Award” from the Haiti Mobile Money Initiative partnership between Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID.
I also served as CEO of PACKH20, a social innovation company specifically founded by industrial packaging company GREIF to address the global need of transporting clean water in water-stressed and disaster-prone countries. In that capacity I created strategic business and development plans, and directed the implementation of those plans during the startup phase. I secured support from key leaders across municipal governments, water agencies and local organizations, thereby creating a replicable model program for PACKH2O to scale globally.
Additionally, I am passionate about providing the clarity, guidance and structure needed for individuals to reach their highest potential. I offer highly personalized direction, strategic branding and communications to help high achievers position themselves for new and bigger opportunities. Equally passionate about programming that enhances the lives of children, I serve on the board of Save the Children Action Network and provide strategic planning and fundraising support to City Dance Dream.
Through storytelling and innovative brand strategies, I am committed to helping global organizations enhance their value proposition, connect with the people and communities they serve, and ultimately grow their movements with clear intent and purpose.
